All about Lifts
Lifts are something that most of us take for granted and our lives aren’t too badly affected by a broken down lift.
However, if you have a disability that affects your mobility then a broken down or non-existent lift can be a huge inconvenience and can restrict access exponentially.
Ensuring that adequate disabled access is provided in public buildings and in homes where disabled people live is essential, but what are the different types of lifts which allow disabled access available? Read on to find out.
Stair Lift
Stair lifts are most usually installed in domestic settings and allow users to access the upper floors of a residence. They are ideal for those with mobility problems or those who are able to easily get in and out of their wheelchair.
Stair lifts can be fitted to many different sizes and shapes of stair and can travel more than one floor. In addition stair lifts are fitted with backup power packs so that the user will not be left stranded in the event of a power cut.
King Henry VIII is credited with inventing the stair lift after a hunting accident left him unable to walk, although his invention was manually operated.
Platform Lift
A platform lift is usually used to transport wheelchair users up a small stairway, for example in a building’s reception area. Wheelchair users are able to roll onto the lift and place a safety bar in front of them. The lift then rises a small distance and the wheelchair user is able to roll off again.
This type of lift is commonly installed in less modern buildings where small stairways can restrict access, such as schools and office buildings. This type of lift is commonly enclosed by a lift car.
Step Lift
A step lift is very similar in design to a platform lift but can be open rather than enclosed. Step lifts can be specially designed to fit awkward spaces and are one of the best types of lift if space is at a premium. This type of lift is usually open and can be installed into very small spaces to allow disabled access.
Wheelchair Lift
This type of lift can be installed in any setting and normally incorporates and enclosed lift car. Wheelchair lifts are generally installed in buildings where a normal passenger lift is not a viable option due to the distance that the lift needs to travel being small. This type of lift is generally installed on small areas of stairs such as those found in receptions of business buildings or apartment blocks.
Are Multi Room Audio Systems By Blue Aura Worth It?
Satisfaction and dissatisfaction are two of the most common things that most people agree to disagree on when conversing about multi room audio systems. There are many companies that provide audio systems but few leaders. Some of the leaders put out very expensive sound systems that take years of saving to purchase. Companies like Blue Aura are known for offering audio systems for a cheaper price while still maintaining the level of quality that satisfied and dissatisfied audio system lovers can agree upon in a conversation. Regardless of what is sold to consumers, the biggest factor is quality of a sound system in general.
One of the complaints with analogue audio was the fact that it required too many additional components to achieve a pleasing level of audio quality. A receiver for this or a power booster for that made purchasing these systems more expensive. The digital age is here and sound quality has been taken to new heights for home and office sound systems. Playing back audio that remains exclusively in the digital realm requires no additional hardware and there is no loss of quality. Blue Aura provides products that satisfy sound playback and also fixes another problem that is common with average systems.
Some might claim that multi room audio quality is not possible with a less expensive system. The most famous suppliers of systems around the world have achieved this feat and modern manufacturing has given way for new companies to enter the entertainment market. Your existing speakers can connect directly to multi room audio systems from Blue Aura. A single digital player and control system is all that is required for use. If you plan to upgrade your speakers, a complete line of speakers is also available. Putting together a total entertainment package is extremely easy and affordable.
The rise in competition is forcing audio providers that cannot keep up with the changing demand out of the industry forever. There are mainstays in this business and Blue Aura has stood the test of time. Apart from multi room audio systems, you will find speakers, loudspeakers and other technologically advanced devices to make your home or office system complete. When you buy quality components, you will receive many years of use that are never interrupted due to problems or failure. The affordable price range of Blue Aura products allows you to find and create the audio system of your dreams.
Save Money With Energy Saving Lighting
Lighting represents around fifteen per cent of the average home’s domestic utility spend, so it’s well worth making energy-efficient choices when it comes to illuminating your home. Energy saving lighting combined with efficient usage practices at home, can make a real difference to those dreaded monthly bills and cut your carbon footprint in the process.
Firstly, replace any old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs you have at home, with newer version energy-efficient or LED bulbs. These old glass models actually waste around 90% of their lighting energy through heat, making them dangerously hot if you have young children around. Even modest changes will add up – a single switched light bulb should save around £4 a year. Multiply that through the lights in your home and you’ll start to see a real saving.
If you have dimmer switches at home, start using them. Many of the newer energy-efficient light bulbs have compatible dimmer switches that can be controlled to adjust their settings. Also, switch off lights that you’re not using. It sounds obvious, but most of us are guilty of leaving the house lit up like a Christmas tree of an evening!
For aesthetics, use the latest energy-efficient bulbs on the market. Some of the older models took some time to fully light, making them appear dim. The newer models produce comparable light to incandescent bulbs, whilst using 75% less energy. They also produce a similar percentage reduction in heat and last up to ten times longer than old fashioned light bulbs. The new energy-efficient light bulbs now come in a range of shapes, sizes and colours. There are three way models and candelabra versions for decorative lighting and night lights, as well as screw-fix and bayonet versions. Pin-based types are available for dedicated energy-efficient lights and there are both indoor and outdoor suitable types on the market. Where colour was previously a concern as some consumers didn’t like the ‘bluer’ light the new bulbs emitted, there are now warmer/yellow shaded versions.
Bear in mind that these energy-efficient light bulbs contain small levels of mercury, so they should be recycled when they finally expire; many retailers will recycle them for you, for free.
You might want to look at other types of ‘green’ lighting too, such as ‘day lighting’, which basically means using natural light to brighten interiors in the day. These can include skylights or modern tubular lighting. They are relatively easy to integrate into existing homes and can really open up inner spaces, without the need to switch on electric lights. As an example, tubular skylights can bring natural daylight to a mid-terrace house staircase, by reflecting light from above the home through a tubing system that reflects light inside. These are effective and use no energy.
Solar lights are also great for outside the home and can be bought in a range of decorative or functional finishes, from driveway markers and spotters, to shaped and coloured novelty solar strings for hanging around patios and trees. They’re great for entertaining and decorating a landscaped garden.
In fact with a few judicious tweaks and updates, your domestic lighting system could be not only cheaper to run, but more attractive and useful for your family use too.
Understanding Luxury: A Guide To Leather Processing
Leather jackets are everywhere. Most fashionable consumers own a leather coat. No stylish wardrobe is complete without a leather jacket. Despite the popularity of leather jackets, few people understand how leather is created. Surprisingly, all genuine leather jackets are created from animal hides.
To make a leather jacket, a manufacturer must first tan animal hides. Before skin is dried, it is soaked in chemicals. This tanning process causes the skin to dry into a flexible waterproof form. There are many methods for tanning an animal hide. The manufacturer’s process varies heavily according to method. Small industry producers may use an entirely different chemical process than large scale operations.
Most leather is made from cow or pigskin. These animals produce thick and stiff leathers. Moreover, because cows and pigs are large animals, they yield the most leather. Smaller animals typically produce soft and supple leathers. Unfortunately, more animals are needed to create a substantial amount of fabric. This means sheep and goat leathers are more expensive than pig or cowhide leather products. Understanding the leather process helps explain price variability among leather jackets.
Most leather is made from livestock. Occasionally more exotic animals will be used to create leather goods. Ostrich leather is a popular alternative to traditional animal leathers. Many high-end fashion houses use ostrich leather for belts, wallets and handbags. Ostrich leather can be identified by a particular texture formed by the feather follicles on the bird’s skin. This texture is referred to as goose bumps.
Some other exotic animals used to create leather products include: alligators, string-rays, kangaroos and snakes. Reptilian leather will retain the intricate patterns found on an animal’s skin, making it popular for expensive items. However, because reptiles are small animals, it is rare to find an entire garment made from snake or alligator skin. Usually accessories are produced from these exotic forms of leather.
Almost any kind of animal can be used to create leather. Although livestock are used to make most traditional leather products, some leather goods are made from exotic animals. Softer leather is usually more desirable, and thus, more expensive. Small animal leathers also cost more money because more animals are needed to obtain enough fabric. Every manufacturer has a signature tanning process for their leather products. This creates a variety of quality among leather jackets. To get the best jacket for your money, find a company that takes pride in the leather manufacturing process. People who love crafting leather goods will always deliver an exceptional product.

Bouldering Mats: What Are They And How To Buy One
Being a rock climbing enthusiast, you must have certainly heard about bouldering. Bouldering is a branch of rock climbing that is usually performed at lower levels up to 5 meters high. If you are new to rock climbing, it is essential for you to use bouldering mats for protection. Safety is the most important elements to be taken care of while performing any activity. During rock climbing and bouldering, there are chances of losing balance and falling down. This might lead to serious injuries. To prevent occurrences of such injuries, a bouldering mat provides the best protection.
These mats are generally placed on the surface under you and help in preventing injuries if you fall down. They are made of layered foam on the inside and covered with a durable nylon sheet. When buying these mats, make sure one is made of good quality that can hold up to repeated falls and uneven surfaces.
Mats are essential when you are climbing on rocks where the ground surface is uneven. They should be placed so that you get maximum protection from rocky surfaces. The upper layer of the mat has to be thick and the lower layer should be soft. This helps it to form itself into the shape of the rocks below it. Higher density of layers within the bouldering mat will definitely assure more protection for climbing. When buying bouldering mats, it is best to buy one that can be folded. They come with shoulder straps making them convenient to carry like a backpack.
The bouldering mat is important equipment in rock climbing and stands on par with climbing shoes, proper clothing and climbing chalk. Climbing by its very nature is dangerous, but by using a bouldering mat you can reduce the risk of being seriously injured.
These crash pads did not gain popularity commercially until the early 1990s. It was only after this that climbers realised how useful the mats could be in protecting climbers from major injuries. The mats come in various sizes, weights and densities depending on your requirements. It is easy to select the right mat to add to your climbing gear. Choosing a mat should generally be done according to the conditions of the surface where you tend to go for bouldering or rock climbing. It is surely worth the investment and lets bouldering be a fun activity while keeping you safe from falls.
Fatboy Makes Beanbags with Style and Swagger
Anybody who thinks of a beanbag as an uninteresting, static object with limited potential and devoid of style or flair is obviously unfamiliar with the vast and impressive Fatboy range.
Available in a dozen different styles and at least twice as many colours, the Fatboy bean bag has a use in more or less any situation, whether it is for parking the children, sitting, lying, throwing at somebody or simply lurking unobtrusively in a corner as an aesthetically agreeable item of furniture.
Let us consider a few of them. First of all there is the Shuttershadie, with its appealing horizontal stripes and built-in shadow effect. Fatboy says it has “real swagger”. Then there is the outdoor Buggle-Up, with its rain and stain protective coat it is a thing that, unlike the kids, you really can take anywhere.
The Marimekko has an iconic Finnish flower design which leads it to truly stand out from its competition, a veritable prince amongst beanbags which is available in four exciting colour options.
Meanwhile the Metahlowski, the all shiny disco boy of the beanbag world, struts its stuff around your living room in beautiful bronze, sparkling silver, glistening gold or trendy titanium.
Options for smaller people – or for smaller dogs!
There is far more too in the famous, fabulous Fatboy line-up. A whole range of Junior beanbags, modelled on the Original version and available in the same sixteen colours, provides options for the younger members of the household, whilst even your favourite pet is not left out with its Fatboy Doggie Lounge Dog Bed, itself offered in two sizes.
Not to be outdone the versatile Fatboy Point is a family favourite. Chair, foot cushion, child park or ornament, its classic tubular shape reaches parts of the home that other beanbags cannot reach.
Fatboy’s bean bag portfolio is as interesting as it is extensive. You can, to all intents and purposes, choose any colour, any size and any style that springs to mind and there will always be something very close to whatever it was that you had envisioned.
This is a line of products that really is full of beans, in very much more than the literal sense. It lends life and vibrancy to any home, and when it comes to utilising space effectively whilst providing options for sitting and resting offers a fun solution to what can be a serious dilemma.
Interview Clothing For Displaced Ladies
Going in for an interview is an exciting time for someone that has experienced a long bout of unemployment. Hiring managers are constantly searching for the right employee and will stop at nothing until they find one. Some women have no choice but to attend interviews without appropriate interview clothing or miss out on an interview that can change their future. Knowing how to get this clothing is helping many women to build a better life and come out of the trenches of long-term unemployment. A new career, new clothes and hope build confidence and raise the morale of displaced ladies that need a break.
Every woman has the right to be empowered and do what she wants to do in life. The support of friends and family are sometimes not enough to build character that has been lost. The right training and education can lead to a new position that can transform a displaced lifestyle into one without financial difficulties. Apart from obtaining excellent clothing, interviewing skills can be learned through charitable donations of time from experts currently working for corporations. What is said and done in a job interview is just as important as the skills that a lady possesses in life.
University studies have proven that employers are more likely to hire someone that dresses appropriately for open positions compared with a person that does not. A first impression can never be taken lightly and hiring managers want to be sure that a lady looks great, feels great and is skilled in her office training. There are many vacancies that employers have because the right people have not interviewed for the positions. The road to finding a new job means adding the right business attire mixed with a great attitude that is ready to take on all challenges that are presented.
There are many charities that help men with resources that they need in life, but few charities that look out for the needs of women. When a woman is inspired, the chance of her turning around her life is much greater. Ladies that receive assistance often do the same for others in need. The best part about obtaining interview clothing as a displaced lady is that the clothing can be kept. Additional clothing is provided when a lady is hired and she will be able to make a great impression in her new career. New clothing really does make a difference.
